Project Development & Learning Update #1
Jun 12, 2025
Hi guys, it's been a bit. I've been a bit under the weather lately, I think i got some sort of cold or sinus infection at the birthday party i attended last weekend. I've been coughing my lungs out the past few days and have had a hard time getting sleep. My goal was to make at least one blog post discussing whatever I've been doing that week, even if it's something small, so I decided now was the time to write one up.
Learning Journey
For the past week or so, I've been learning a lot. I started working on my Full Stack Developer certification again, and decided to jump back into learning GDscript. This has vastly improved my workflow and made me rethink how I approach things like web design and game design. As a consequence, I have become a bit of a shut-in. I haven't been talking to friends as much or hanging out. Haven't even gotten to play any video games despite all the hype for the new Deltarune chapters. The path of a developer is a bit of a lonely one it seems. Not that it has to be, but when you dedicate so much time to your work, you eventually lose time for other activities.
I found some really good resources for learning and have been sticking to those. The fact that these resources exist in the first place and can be accessed at the click of a button is incredible. Please do check out freeCodeCamp and GDquest if you want to get into web development and/or game development. If you're anything like me, you prefer to learn visually, hands on, and step-by-step. Even after just doing a few lessons, I found documentation easier to interpret. So even if it doesn't make you a master, it will give you the experience to become one!
GigaMiner Development Progress
I just started working on this again, and honestly progress is extremely slow since I still don't quite know what I'm doing yet, but I assure I will be able to get something out within the next few weeks. Not to jinx it or anything, but normally when I say I'll finish something I never do. I hope this time will be different. I have sprites already made for the main character's 5 main movement states, and some tiles. I want to make more tilesets and build a scene for testing purposes next, then hopefully once I have all my state machines, variables, and environments set up the process will be a lot more streamlined.
Here's some previews of what I have, old and new.
